James B. Watters, President and General Manager, Universal Operations Group was honored Thursday night for his contribution to Providence Saint Joseph Foundation and his part is helping to raise tens of millions of dollars for the medical center.
Over 500 guests filled Universal’s Globe Theater to maximum capacity, chaired by board member Larry Kurzweil, President and COO Universal Theme Park,helping to make this year’s Gala the most successful in the history of Providence Saint Joseph, raising more than $700,000.
As the last rays of sun faded from the sky, the lights at The Globe Theatre, Universal Studios, were just warming up. The 500 guests streamed in walking down the red carpet toward an outdoor cocktail reception featuring a lively silent auction.
Notable guest and friends of Jim’s were on hand to celebrate with him. Ronald Meyer (President and COO, Universal), Emmy award winning director, Ed Romano (Executive VP, WarnerBros.), and Steve Papazian (President of Worldwide Physical Production, WarnerBros.) came out to show their support for their philanthropic friend and worthy cause.
The evening’s program opened with a welcome from Barry Wolfman, CE, Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center and the Foundation’s President, Patricia Modrzejewski. Singing waiters regaled the audience with operatic and Broadway tunes, followed by a short film honoring Jim Watters, introduced by Ron Meyer. The short film created in Jim’s honor, was narrated by Brian Williams, with many heart warming comments from iconic industry professionals such as Steven Spielberg, Dick Wolf, Greg Yaitanes and many more.
Following the film Ron Meyer presented Jim with a beautiful commemorative plaque.
The evening concluded with performances by American Idol finalist Didi Benami and Acoustic, Singer/Songwriter Keaton Simons.

As a board member at Providence Saint Joseph Foundation, Jim has been responsible for fostering a tight-knit relationship between the Foundation and Universal that has played a crucial role in the success of the foundation as well as advancement and expansion of the hospital’s Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center, the Hycy and Howard Hill Neuroscience Center, NICU and numerous other campaigns. In addition to his work for the foundation, Jim is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and a board member of the Entertainment Industry Foundation.
