The Insider: Kendra Chantelle, Didi Benami bond over ‘American Idol’ experiences

When Loudon County native Kendra Chantelle was in the middle of her “American Idol” experience recently, she came upon an East Tennessean who could relate to all the craziness.

Chantelle, nee Kendra Campbell, met Knoxville native Didi Benami during a party to celebrate the top 24 finalists for this season. Chantelle didn’t watch “Idol” last season but certainly had heard of Benami.

Their “Idol” paths are very similar. This season, Chantelle sailed into the top 24 but barely missed the top 10; Benami made it to the top 10 last season but was eliminated the first night.

“She was just completely sweet,” says Chantelle of Benami. “She said to be sure to take this in because it is over faster than you think.

“That’s pretty profound.”

They’re following each other on Twitter, too — and, in the cyberworld, that means they are practically best friends forever!

Chantelle has heard more than once than she and Benami should work together. Chantelle is certainly not objecting to such a plan.

“She’s so nice. I would love that,” says Chantelle. “She is so talented.”
