There is something familiar and very exciting about Jason Reeves.
Some may not have heard his name but certainly people worldwide have heard his music. We have. His music totally won us over and we have been listening to his “Magnificent Adventures of Heartache” album long before “Terrified” exploded!
After learning that Didi Benami herself is a fan of Jason Reeves’ works, it was easy for us to call ourselves fans of Jason!
Jason Reeves is a gifted, multi-platinum songwriter and the ‘co-pen’ behind the songs from some of today’s contemporary voices- from friend and colleague Colbie Caillat, Katharine McPhee, Lenka to Demi Lovato. He is one of the most prolific and sought-after co-writers around and a Didi Benami collaboration in the near future would be a sure welcome and a dream come true for both fans of Didi and Jason!
The Early YearsJason taught himself to play guitar at age 17 and never had guitar lessons. He was playing the piano at age 5. His influences include Bob Dylan and James Taylor; Pink Floyd and Radiohead.
Born in Iowa City, Iowa, Reeves began his own musical adventure as a teenager and spent the next few years honing his own writing skills before dropping out of college and moving to California to pursue his music full time. (WIKI)
Soon after he arrived in California, he met the then equally unknown artist Colbie Caillat, who was to become among his closest and oldest friends since moving to LA. He describes their journey together as one “very interesting story.”
“She had nothing going on when I met her; she had just gotten her first guitar and had her first guitar lesson. I remember she played me the first song she’d ever written. We were both just very innocent in the face of the whole thing. We really had no specific goals of doing what we did. We just started writing songs together and neither of us had ever written with anybody else. We were pretty much learning how to make music with another person. It was a very magical and strange thing.” (MyMag)
As the story goes: Jason co-wrote 10 of the 12 tracks on Caillat’s platinum debut Coco, including the smash hit singles “Bubbly” and “Realize,” as well as 10 of the 12 tracks on the deluxe edition of her album Breakthrough which included current hit single “I Never Told You.”

The 26-year-old indie-folk, going pop mainstream artist, is a three-time ASCAP Pop Award winner. Hailed by iTunes as one of the Top Indie Singer-Songwriters of 2007 and his debut album “The Magnificent Adventures of Heartache (And Other Frightening Tales…)” earned “Top Folk Album of 2007,” Jason Reeves’ solo career as a singer-songwriter took off.
It didn’t take long, in July 2008– Jason finally received a well-deserved attention from a major label under Warner Brothers Records (WBR); thanks in part to WBR’s Senior Vice President of A&R, Kara DioGuardi, who sealed the deal for Jason and got him signed.
Now with a solid recording and distribution deal, we can only expect bigger things for Jason’s music career.
In fact, it has already begun!
In simultaneous announcements this week on Myspace, Twitter and Facebook, Jason’s official website has a new face (but we loved the old look better
) under WB’s umbrella with a first listen to his latest single “Helium Hearts” due for release digitally on August 17th followed by a radio impact date of September 20th.
Helium Hearts is “about love lifting people out of the madness of the world into the peaceful beauty of the sky. It’s a love song about falling in love and as a result of love they can float away,” explains Reeves in one of his recent interviews.
His Official MySpace just got a brand new look too where “Helium Hearts” is also streaming. The track is the first single from Reeves’ anticipated new album, The Lovesick, due for release this winter on Warner Bros. Records.
Produced by Adam Smith, The Lovesick features songwriting collaborations with Kara DioGuardi.
Helium Hearts
Lyrics
(reeves/rowan/leverett)over the lights of sunset and vine
we’re floating away from the fortune and fame
and your lips are mine, they’re raspberry wine
your body’s a map i will follow into the sky
cause what you got is all that i want
and still that’s not enough, it’s not enoughcause we’re on fire walking love’s highest burning wire
helium hearts we’re falling skyward
we’re never coming down
we’re so high the city below gets small and quiet
every breath just makes us lighter
we’re never coming down…the further we go we’re losing our clothes
one shoe at a time thrown over the side
like our fears and doubts we cast them out
till nothing is left and we’re standing together now
cause what we got is all that we want
and that’s always enough, enough for usCHORUS
Jason Reeves will begin his “Helium Hearts Tour on August 26 in Seattle, WA, and will stop in more than 30 cities across the United States.
