The perks of the American Idol backstage “after party” during this nationwide Live tour 2010, is the reality of a ‘dream’ of meeting all ten contestants in one roof in a very relaxed and informal way.
Next to Didi Benami, we had hoped to meet Crystal Bowersox face to face even while the show was still on. She was our pick to win it all not only because she was the last girl standing and Didi hinted how she wanted a ‘girl’ to win this year but because we saw in her similar qualities and traits that have us profess our unceasing support for Didi in the first place.
We saw in Crystal a kind and authentic soul, yet there is also an intensity and certainty in her actions. Her motivations and vigor to make a difference through her music is quite remarkable if not stirring. It does not hurt one bit that these two engaging people are very talented in their own styles and genres! We love both of them!! Her rendition of the classic Curtis Mayfield-penned tune “People Get Ready” was unbelievable and remains to be one of our favorite performances of the entire season, no- one of our faves in all of Idol history.
In end, for us it isn’t just about the best singer and or the best performer. It is who you can connect and relate with in an indirect yet very personal way. What is music if there is no great artist who moves you, behind the song? Crystal Bowersox and Didi Benami can do that to us.
In the most opportune time, we were privileged to meet Crystal Bowersox… Crystal in all her simple, unpretentious, down to earth ways! We love Crystal! Yes, we said that already. 🙂 She is so easy-going! She has this calmness in her that makes one comfortable around her right away. No air, no frills.
Make no mistake about her, she is intelligent, astute and quick-witted to boot! She could be a an advocate and speaker for a cause and people will listen. Like Didi, she looks at you in the eyes during conversations as though you are the only person there and you matter! We really enjoyed talking with her and being around her while she gamely attended to kids’ silly requests like “can we touch your hair?” or “can we take a picture of your hair?” or “can you sign my shirt?”
Crystal was really having a fun time meeting everyone and she was a bit all over the place with the kids that my partner stepped on her foot and she was wearing only flipflops! She says don’t worry about it… Geez, how do you get away stepping on someone’s foot- the Crystal Bowersox’ foot no less?!! (I had to throw that in so perhaps when Crystal reads this, she’d go yeah, I remember those two! The freakin’ dork stepped on my foot!! 😉 ) She didn’t really seem to mind though.
Most of all we love her because she truly loves Didi Benami and she cares about Didi!! We felt it! I couldn’t remember our exact exchanges but one thing shines through, her love and respect for Didi. She said she’s closest to Didi and Siobhan. We had a few more small talks here and and there. When I told Crystal I was from Didi’s fansite she said something like “cool, I’ve seen the website, I go to the site and it’s wonderful work you’re doing for Didi.” We told her that after Didi was voted off, we rooted for her and supported her all the way. She thanked us for it and as though in perfect lead off, the new wave of crowd started to get her attention and so we had to bid her farewell.
Crystal has got the singing and performing covered. We’re so glad to meet her. She is beautiful and admirable. A well-balanced individual; gentle yet compelling. self assured yet modest, grounded yet free. We are so ready! She is ready and the world is ready for her.
