This is part of our continuing account of the many exciting events that happened to our boring, normal lives that day in the American Idol Live Tour stop in Mansfield, MA. It took only a day to make us fall in love with all these idols whom we only saw and ‘judged’ from our television screens. We have watched Idol for 9 seasons and this is the only time we got really involved- thanks to Didi Benami! If not for her audition, we won’t have this website, we won’t be following these idols and we will never watch an American Idol concert… We couldn’t have watched at a better time!

2:26pm Tim Urban in all his cuteness, arrives.

2:37pm Tim leaves the scene. Mr Mark and Mrs Clara Stevens appear! Katie’s parents chatted with us and they have become quite a celebrity themselves and his dad joked that since Katie’s appearance on Idol, he didn’t have his name anymore but became “Katie’s dad”. Someone asked him if he could ask Katie to come out. He quips, “she’ll probably yell at me” or something to that effect. Then Katie’s mom made the call!!

May I add that though Massachusetts is Siobhan Magnus territory, Katie’s parents were in full gear in making sure Katie had New England support! Katie’s hometown of Connecticut is after all part of the 6 State covering New England including Massachusetts. They were organized and seem to have a bus load of supporters watching the show, all wearing pink shirts or pink colored theme outfits. What stood out was they were also handing out a good number of Katie’s head- well not her head- head but Katie fan heads! Almost a must in this hot weather, it served dual purpose! Inside the arena, they established their spots by making some noise for Katie, standing in unison, waving Katie fan heads through out Katie’s set. For a while there, it felt like it was Katie’s hometown not Siobhan’s (although that changed when Siobhan did finally come out on stage!)

Mr and Mrs Stevens were both so friendly and approachable. They talked with everyone. We can feel how much love they have for Katie and all American idol fans!

Lee and Katie Meet the fans!

2:45pm Mrs. Steven’s call worked! Lee DeWyze and Katie Stevens were walking towards us. The fans were surprisingly calm seeing Lee and Katie but very eager nonetheless. (Please watch video) The two had instant rapport with the fans! Lee DeWyze is a true ladies’ man! He just attracts the girls like a magnet! Very good looking and easygoing! Very personable- something we didn’t really see when he was on Idol because on TV, he appeared so distant, almost worried looking at times. Katie Stevens is such a darling. She is very pretty and bubbly.

Together, they make a great pair- not in a romantic sense but they have great fraternal interaction and chemistry, it shows in the way they talk and treat each other. Lee is like the ‘protective brother’ and they tease a lot. At one point when we thanked them for coming out, Lee revealed that Katie did not really want to go out because it was hot and she didn’t want to walk out of the parking lot from where their tour buses were to us! Something about how ‘far’ she had to walk… and she was just ‘forced’. To this, Katie vehemently denies and goes out to get Lee!

Then a joke about “Katie’s fan heads!” Lee goes around saying “hey, I got Katie’s head” or I’m a Katie Steven’s head (waving the Katie head)! or I’m a fan of Katie- Katie’s head…” Something funny like that. Lee waves it around for everyone to see and he puts Katie’s head on the left pocket of his leather jacket. Everyone giggles with delight watching the two! There was a lot of smiling and laughing!

Didi Benami, please…?

I asked Katie if there was a chance Didi will come out! I introduced myself that I was from the fansite and I would really LOVE to meet her even for one minute!! She said she really do not know but she will tell Didi that I was out here. I thanked her for it and hoped for the best.

We were observers to Katie and Lee interacting with Mr and Mrs Stevens too! At one point, Katie’s dad checks on Katie and asks: “how you doing?” and Katie gives his dad a kiss on the cheek! We see Lee talking to Mrs Stevens like she was his own mom or Lee would have exchanges with Mr. Stevens!! You would see on the photos, how they are all like family…

Katie was in a denim shorts and layered sleeveless shirt while Lee was wearing a 3/4 sleeved shirt under his leather jacket, in jeans and a baseball cap! Someone did finally call him on it! Does he really need to wear a leather jacket in this heat?! Lee insists that the leather jacket isn’t as heavy as it looks and it isn’t warm. He took it off and had one lucky fan try them on to prove it wasn’t heavy! He said he almost gave away the jacket in the last show because it got ripped on the left sleeves…

Lee would joke around a lot, like someone would ask him, “can I have a picture with you?” And he would give this stern look and say “No!” He waits for the shocked look on the fan’s face and then he’d say: “I’m just kiding! Come here, come here (gesturing with his hand) and then he would give the fan a hug!! I was ‘victim’ to this too!! I asked him: “Lee, would you make a quick pose for me please?” And then he looks at me dead straight and says something like: “No, I’m not posing for you.” And I went: “Oh, ok” (sad face…). He responds: “just kiddng, of course I can” and so I snapped!

Katie and Lee were having a great time with the fans! They talked to everyone, every single person who were there!! Since I was timing this whole thing, the idols average 10 minutes per appearance and they actually stayed for 13 minutes!!! I can imagine what fun it would have been if Andrew came out along with them! Andrew and Lee together in their bromance, that’s epic!

They left at 2:58pm and everyone was happy and contented to have met America’s newest idol, Lee DeWyze- in all his goofy antics, ‘wicked awesome’ personality and gorgeous face; and not to be missed- the very charming, affable and lovely Katie Stevens.

Things were looking up for the fans… Next idol please…!
