We were looking for the best way to describe Tim and we found one. boy next door: noun.

The dictionary defines it as: a type of man or boy who is unaffected, approachable, and perceived as similar to yourself. Urban dictionary states it as: A (teenage) male, very wholesome and unassuming, and maintains an innocence about him. Very sincere, sometimes shy, sometimes confident and rarely arrogant. A sweet boy, someone who girls are proud to bring home to their parents because of his charm, demeanor and sincerity.

Next to the definition of ‘boy next door’ was Tim Urban’s photo! (Aaaaaaaww! But it’s true, we kid you not!)

Backgrounder:

Over six months ago, we would have never imagined we would be writing a full article on Tim Urban on this fansite for Didi. After all, we remember so vividly the Top 10 results where Ryan pittied our Didi against Tim and consequently, Didi was voted off!!

Among the Top 12 on American Idol, going even as far back as the Top 24, the most talked about contestant has got to be Tim Urban. He’s been called many names and this website shares its time of poking at him just by his sheer presence on the show exacerbated by the fact that the ‘worst’ website that we hate the most was endorsing him.

Change of view

After meeting Tim face to face, I had a change of heart! I am human after all, ‘mature’ enough to realize that my dislike for Tim has been based on other factors not really of Tim’s doing.

For the benefit of new readers, I was lucky enough to be at the FREE meet and greet prior to the show of American Idol Live at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, MA on July 18th.

Like a truly good ‘boy next door,’ Tim Urban was the first idol to show up before the small crowd of fans outside the venue at 2:26 pm. Like a truly good boy next door, he presented himself unpresuming and almost self-effacing.

The fans swarmed him with adulation and he maintains a coy sheepish grin that can melt anyone’s heart- it melted mine! How can one resist a guy as cute and adorable as Tim Urban?

He talked to us like we were buddies just hanging out. Fans brought him presents! When the little frenzy simmered down, I walked up to him closely and quietly handed him the fansite’s small gifts for Didi thinking he was the only one coming out that day or I’ll never get the chance to meet Didi personally. I told Tim to tell Didi that it is from her fansite and I’d really love to meet her but if she can’t it’s all right. Tim was so accommodating and said he’ll make sure Didi gets the gifts and convey my message.

I felt he really listened to me whereas too many of us can only ‘pretend’ to be listening when another person is talking to us- especially in a situation where there’s too much excitement going on.

Even though I reiterated my persistence on having Didi come out to meet the fans to Katie (and might have been Andrew too), it was Tim I spoke with a bit in length and I think he delivered for me! Didi came out because I believe he didn’t just hand the gift to Didi but could have said that it would be really nice if Didi came out for me and the fans!!

After show Meet and Greet

Thanks to Didi, I got the coveted backstage pass to meet the idols after the concert. And so I meet Tim again!! {Please take some time to read our post on MEETING DIDI BENAMI up close and personal and why we truly heart Didi!}

We were crossing each other’s path and he gave me the nicest smile with sort of recognition that he’s seen me from somewhere! I reminded him that I was from the fansite of Didi. And he replies, “of course, yeah I remember you!!” Smiles again. I told him he got Didi to come out and I thanked him for it. He gently says: “oh no problem at all. I’m really happy you got to meet her.” I commended him for a great show (and I meant it!!) and he thanks me back. No awkward moments, we were talking! I said I didn’t want to take his time away from other fans so I let him go and offered my hand. His handshake was strong and firm. That again says something about a person!

Just on the ten minute interaction of Tim Urban with the fans earlier and the short encounter after the show, I could say that Tim embodies the ‘boy next door’ qualities; the way he carries himself– “very wholesome and unassuming, and maintains an innocence about him. Very sincere, sometimes shy, sometimes confident and rarely arrogant.”

That is Tim Urban. American Idol finalist. Boy next door personified.
