Didi Benami opens the American Idol Season 9 Live Tour 2010 show with invigorating renditions of “Lay it on Me” (Kyler England, 2006) and “Terrified” (Katharine McPhee, 2010).

While some describe the song choices as quiet like some “concert rule” has been broken, we embraced it! The Summer heat is scorching and humid and Didi came out like a cool fresh breeze filling up the stadium rejuvenating tired souls. I waited along with others from the pre meet and greet, for more than 6 hours to show time (for some, it was 9 hours!) and hearing Didi first was such a treat!

She brought a certain class and elegance to the idol stage that is unparalleled.

No, there aren’t rules in opening a show especially if Didi is the opener!!

Her set we thought was solid but she’s in the position where she starts as some people are just arriving– late for the concert or hasn’t settled down in their seats yet. Being first has that downside in that sense.

Regardless, her distinct sound were music to our ears. No matter how many times we’ve heard the songs on repeat in our ipods and no matter how many times we’ve seen the concert videos from previous shows, we still couldn’t get enough of Didi! The performances were honest and believable and we totally forgot it isn’t her own songs.

We also forgot how sick she was until she spoke with some strain and effort in her voice. A professional she is, she didn’t make excuses to the audience and carried on to her next song like she is in top form. How she was able to perform not feeling well and still gave a wonderful show is beyond us!

She’s got everything going for her. Looks- check, musicality- check, recordable sound-check, stage presence-check, magic on stage-check, passion and drive to succeed- check, huge fan base (Didi fans, make some noise!)- check.

Watching her was captivating and enthralling. There is no description to her beauty. Didi is full of radiance that is infectious and affecting. We wanted more of her. Two songs were NOT enough! The limited sound quality in the videos does not do justice to how good she is!

2:55 THANK YOU to the woman holding KATIE STEVENS’ HEAD!! I got distracted and it caught me off guard so there is a break in the video!!!! So disappointed because the audio was perfect to capture on MP3. (We do have a back from another camera but this has better audio!)
