Quick Poll: American Idol lowers age limit to 15. Yey or Nay?!

With Simon Cowell gone coupled with the declining staying power of American Idol, the producers promise major changes in next year’s tenth season offering.

This week, they dropped the first major change– that is to lower the age limit of kids wanting to try out from 16 years old to 15. The end of the age spectrum is still at 28 years old.

“A lot of young, talented people are now seeking careers and representation before they turn 16,” said Executive Producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz. Frot-Coutaz continued, “Lowering the age limit allows us to tap into this talent pool.”

Translation:

lowering the age limit will allow them to take advantage of these talented kids.
by lowering the age limit, they can tap EVEN MORE into the teeny bopper crowds who has unlimited text messaging and has all the time in the world, literally on their fingertips to vote.
by catering into the teeny bopper crowd even more, they believe it will save the show.
Justin Beiber is in and they want dibs on the proverbial piece of the pie.

There are a lot of things that requires a certain level of maturity to be able to handle them successfully. That’s why kids can only drive when they’re at least 16 or one can only drink alcohol when they’re 21 or can vote when they’re 18. The pressures and stresses in real life are hard enough for kids in America, try instant fame and fortune.

We agree with Crystal, Lee and Casey when asked about it. We believe they should not lower but rather INCREASE the age limit from 16 to 18 years old and the upper limit to 30 even 35 years of age. Kids of today have so much going for them and plenty of time to grow, why RUSH and force maturity into them by luring or baiting them into thinking instant celebrity status is good for them? 15 is too young to be given such responsibility.

What’s your take? Does it matter much whether 15 or 16? Do you think instead of lowering, they should be increasing the age limit to give chance to more mature young adults, say 18-30?
